Highlands of Scotland near to the village of Killin in Perthshire, Scotland.
A
small collection of cottages that was once Wester Lix Farm, an ideal location
for a comfortable and peaceful retreat being located in a remote and secluded
forest clearing, but at the same time within easy reach of nearby villages and
local amenities and being less than 2 hours drive from Glasgow or Edinburgh. Features
of the location include our own private lochan fed from the burn that runs through
the site. Wester Lix is set within its own secluded and private grounds of 9 acres
and is a family business run by its owners Gill and Dave Hunt. They
offer 6 'real-home' cottages, each with their own character and style for
groups of 2 to 8+. A
bit more about Wester Lix -Wester
Lix was once a farm sitting in an area of open hillside. Over the years the buildings
have been modified, refurbished and extended, and the surrounding farmland planted
as managed forestry. The present owners Gill and Dave, purchased the old farm
buildings and approx 9 acres of the surrounding land in summer
of 1999.
This comprised
of 4 properties, one being their family home, the other 3 offered as self catering
accommodation to families and small groups. Their aim is simple, to provide a
true home from home, affordable quality accommodation in a peaceful and secluded
setting to those seeking to appreciate this area of the Scottish Highlands. To
achieve this they have decorated and equipped the cottages to a level that they
would expect when looking for a relaxing break themselves.
The result is a compliment
of comfort and usability suitable as a base to enjoy the great outdoors. Scottish
Tourist Board have assessed these to be 3 star accommodation which represents
a high level of comfort and facility whilst being affordable to the average guest.
Each cottage has been totally redecorated since their purchase, and the Steading
has just had its second phase of major alteration to accommodate the slightly
larger groups. Wester Lix are situated just over 2 miles from the village of Killin,
right in the centre of the Dochart Forest.
From the grounds one can access many local walks, some along former railway tracks
one of which will take you into Killin itself, and others to local waterfalls
or out onto open hillside. The local area forms part of The Loch Lommond and Trossachs
National Park and is therefore protected from development.
Finally at Wester Lix there is a strong affinity with animals, from the
family pets, chickens and sheep, the bats nesting in the lofts, to the local wildlife
such as the deer that live in the adjoining forest. The owners therefore welcome
pets by arrangement but will insist on them being Vaccinated to protect our own
and those of other guests.
